Doença de Hodgkin: Resultados de Tratamentos de 61 Pacientes

Hodgkin's disease (HD) represents 1/3 of malignant lymphomas. It's one of the most curable cancers today, after appropriate use of radio and chemotherapy. However, these treatments may cause important complications like sterility or new cancer. Thus, it is not easy to obtain. good control of the disease with little complications. This report shows the results of 61 adult patients with HD treated at Centro de Oncologia Campinas between january/1978 and july/1985. Sixteen patients were stage I, 21 stage II, 20 stage III and 4 stage IV. Overall survival was of 92% and disease free survival was of 75% in five years, with mean follow up time of 36 months. Some difficulties were found during staging procedures due to our still limited system of social medicine. Of 32/61 (52%) patients where gonadal dysfunction was investigated, 21 (66%) did not show abnormalities. Only one patient had a secondary cancer (of the cervix), probably not related to the treatments, but further follow up is necessary, in order to obtain a better evaluation.
