Abstract

This study reports on the implementation of a nursing care project for the radiotherapy department in a university hospital. The aim was to inform on the essence of nursing care in a radiotherapy department. We describe the activities performed since the implementation of our social project, discussing some basic nursing principles, followed by reflection on the importance of the nursing team in radiotherapy. Based on our observations, beginning with the presentation of the nursing care project, the multidisciplinary team adopted a stance of awareness-raising concerning our role and proved to be informed as to the importance of nursing care in a radiotherapy department. Additionally, as the activities developed, the nursing team in this department became a reference for both patients and caregivers, who now turn to the team for solutions to their basic needs.
