Abstract

Primary cancer of the female urethra is a rare malignant neoplasm. The authors report a case of a 32-year-old black female patient who came to the medical center with urinary obstruction. Diagnostic investigation showed urethral epidermoid carcinoma as the subjacent cause of the symptom. Radical cystourethrectomy combined with pelvic lymphadenectomy, total hysterectomy, and resection of the anterior vaginal wall with reconstruction of the urinary tract with a continente urinary reservoir (Indiana Pouch Surgery) were performed. A positive reaction, at the immunohistochemical study, for human papillomavirus (HPV) antigen was observed in the tumor. Now, after 12 months offollow-up, the patient is disease-free and has good quality of life.
