The role of the nurse in radiation oncology

The purpose of this paper is to show the importance os the nurse in the radiation therapy department, focusing managerial, health care and educational. Technical development in health care lead nurses to increase their skill and capabilities. It is acknowledged, now, the importance of the care provided by nurses to patients who undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The authors report their managerial experience in the different administrative tasks. Health care wise, the nurse needs specific training to work in the radiation therapy unit. It is stressed the importance ofthe nurese’s consultation. Training activities are also addressed.
