Aspectos críticos dos pacientes submetidos a peritoneostomia - Destaque para a assistência de enfermagem

Peritoneostomy is part of the surgical armamentarium in the treatment of diffuse serious peritonitis. Researched and modified with new technologic advances and techniques in the recent years, it is still a chailenge for the multidisCiplinary team in regard to its prognosis, for the mortality rate is stil high. Oncologic patients submitted to peritoneostomy are a group with elevated death risk, due to the nature of their illness, reperCussion of treatment and consequences of infection over an immunocompromised patient. Among 38 oncologic patients submitted to peritoneostomy in the National Institute of Cancer of Brazil (INCA) between 1985 and 1992 it was observed that peritonitis was generaily diffuse, generalized, with faecal or purulent exudate and that most of them (27/38) evolute with Multiple Organ Failures and death.
