Casos examinados por el Programa de Detección Precoz del Cáncer Bucal - Cuba 1986 -1990

A descriptive epidemiologic study was performed to measure the ratio of attendance of patients remmited by the dentists to the maxilo surgeons and those who were really seen by the surgeons. Data from the National Program to Early Diagnosis of Oral Cancer were studied by provinces in the time-period from 1986 to 1990. A considerable proportion of the remmited patients (71,6%) did not attend to the specialist to receive treatment and follow-up. Only the provinces Villa Clara, Granma and Ciego de Avila showed increasing trends. These features indicate falls in the rescueting of cases. The cumplimentation of the stablished procedures in the Program and aditional educative activities, which conjugate the efforts of dentists, family- doctors and social organizations, are suggested.
