Abstract

The authors review the modes of treatment for cancer and quote statistical data, advising immediate start for treatment. They emphasize the advantages of radiation therapy, the recommended doses and the problems such treatment may cause in the irradiated tissues. The tumors of the head and neck region must be treated by a team, of which the dentist is an integral part. A program is proposed for the patients to be submited to radiation therapy, aimed to avoid or minimize the tissue damages. Attention is called to the care of such patients, under the dentisfs supervision.
