Abstract

Revision of cases of gastric cancers observed in surgical specimens and autopsies from 2 cities: Botucatu, SP., Brasil (124 cases) and La Plata, Bs. As., Argentina, (423 cases); in both cities mortality by gastric cancer is 30/100.000. Cases were divided by sex, age and histologicaly classified in adenocarcinoma, difuse and mucoid carcinoma, as proposed by KUBO. In both series adenocarcinoma was more frequent followed by difuse carcinoma the mucoid type being the less frequent; the majority of the cases ocurred between 50 and 60 years of age. Adenocarcinomas were more frequent above 50 years and difuse carcinomas bellow that age the diference being statistically significant only in the Botucatu series. Males outnumbered females in a proportion of 3/1 in Botucatu and 4/1 in La Plata
