Abstract

The author analyzes the anatomopathological diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease, with special emphasis on the histopathological aspects that interfere with the variations in the classification according to subtypes. He stresses the fact that he has encountered 6.08% of erroneous diagnosis in 115 reviewed cases, and 24.07% change in subtypes. He points to fundamental aspects he believes to be the cause of wrong interpretation, such as the correct Identification of the diagnostic cells of histiocytes and epitelium-like elements, the diagnosis of "lacunar" cells and their importance as indicated by Lukes and Butler, and the differentiating aspects of fibroses. He shows the different aspects of incidence and site of the sclero-nodular form in his region, principally from those reported by American authors. He concludes with an appeal that other data, by other authors, be collected in different parts of Brazil, using the proposed patterns, so that epidemiological surveys of the Hodgkin disease and its subtypes be effected in our country whereby extremely interesting deductions may be derived.
