Abstract

Bone metastases may be present as one of the first signs of disseminated disease, mainly in breast, lung and prostate cancer. Although the majority of these patients will have a short survival, a considerable proportion of them will survive time enough to develop symptoms of the bone disease, suffering pain and affecting their quality of life. Therapeutic alternatives that interfer in the physiopathologic process of bone disease are being investigated, and radioisotopes and agents without citotoxic activity are promissing in this area. This article is an overview of the several options at clinical investigation for these subset of patients.
