The process ofcreating stories with hospitalized children

Abstract

The ACCG - Cancer Fighting Society of Goiás works within the Araújo Jorge Hospital, which is specialized in cancer treatment, and whose patients are mainly from Mid-West and North regions of Braz U. This paper describes the process ofcreating stories, undergone by the children admitted to the Pediatric Department ofthe hospital. It is set up a play time support group for children with cancer, in wich each child is encouraged to reveal his/her feelings and conflicts during the treatment. This support group is coordinated by a psychologist and lasts nine months. Next, a qualitative analysis ofthe results is done, as to better understand the internal reality of each child, and to enhance the communication channels with the support staff. This support group is to prove that by creating different forms of unconscious expression that children see reality, blending the external adult reality with their own internal reality.
