The author has made a review upon Gastroenterological Tumor Markers. He emphasizes their usefulness and relativity in the diagnosis and prognosis of some malignant neoplasms (specially: hepatocellular carcinoma, adenocarcinoma of pancreas and colon câncer) of the digestive tract. AIso, the value of these markers turns outstanding mainly among the known high-risk groups (cirrhotics and active chronic hepatitis carriers or chronic carriers of virus B, among others); in those groups, sometimes, the dosage of alphafetoprotein, v. gr., could be very important as for the hepatocellular carcinoma screening, for instance. Some markers recently developed from monoclonal antibodies, nowadays undertesting, are commented on as well.
