Abstract

At the event It’s About a Billion Lives organized by the University of California in San Francisco Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education held on January 26, 2023, 20 years of the Truth Tobacco Industry Documents (TTID), earlier known as Legacy Tobacco Documents Library were celebrated (due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the event did not occur last year). At that occasion, the importance of these documents for tobacco control was emphasized because they exposed several strategies the tobacco industry adopted, for example, the stratagems to deny that cigarettes cause cancer, the development of technologies making them more attractive for children and adolescents and how projects to weaken public health policies for tobacco control were devised.
