In the present paper, the author studies in the first place the general symptoms as well as the usual resources for diagnosis or oral lesions, emphasizing the necessitâ of an accurate and routine direct examination, regarding mainlâ its prophâlatical advantage. The oral cavity due to its great accessibility allows an easier and more direct visualization of its lesions than any other cavity of the body. This direct examination therefore should be the basis for further examinations. The oral lesions are devided in neoplastic (blastomatous) and non neoplastic (non blas tomatous) lesions. In this article only the second are studied. The word pre-cancerous is not used due to the fact the such lesions many or may not lead to cancer formation. Classification of the lesions is based on clinical, pathological and embryological findings. As the author's intention was more towards building up the clinical diagnosis of each case, radiology and histopathology were not considered. Each umor group was studied in a general way, special consideration beeing given to the most frequent lesions
