Foi revisto o metabolismo das gorduras à luz de conhecimento os ultimamente adquiridos, detendo-se o autor no estudo da lipogênese e da lipólise, bem como a interrelação dos ácidos graxos com a glicose na homeostasia da energia metabólica. Analisaram-se as causas da obesidade, destacando-se a predisposição genética que intervem nas anomalias bioquímicas dos ácidos graxos e dos hidratos de carbono. Frisou-se que o tratamento realmente eficaz deve ser preventivo, levando-se em conta, não só os fatores genéticos, mas também os emocionais e sociológicos. Apresentou-se um esquema para o tratamento da obesidade grave por meio do jejum intermitente.
