Abstract

The study identified the experiences ofseven women during different stages of breast cancer treatment from their own perspectives, using methods of qualitative research. The coping experiences were compared “as being in a war ” with many fights to be won. The experiences occur on different stages, where uncertainties and imbalance are derived mainly because of their conceptions about cancer and its meaning related to terminality. To cope with those feelings the strategies focus on emotions, as denial, minimization and selective attention, or focus on problems such as search for information, modification of environment stressors, changes related to their own goals and to the way that they see the world.
