Case report: secretory carcinoma of the breast

In this article, the authors show a case of a patient who had a secretory carcinoma of the breast, a rare type of breast câncer which occurs more frequently in young patients. In this case, a 38-year-old woman presenting a breast nodule with clinical features of a benign tumor was initially approached by fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and the cytologic testing was on compatible with benign lesion. After that, the patient was submitted to a simple tumorectomy, and the pathological examination showed that it was a secretory carcinoma of the breast. After the diagnosis of malignancy, the authors have made a choice for a more conservative conduct, since it is a good-prognosis tumor, and only a broadening of the surgical margins of the first procedure was performed. The authors also present a brief review of the literature which justify the conservative treatment that was used.
