Fat necrosis of the breast is a process of desintegration of fat celis followed by a granulomatous inflammation of variable degree. It is characterized by a foreign body type of reaction secondary to the spilling of the adipocyte's cytoplasm and recognition of the fat as a foreign substance to the interstitiun. The clínical picture and the radiologic findings can cause difficulties in the differential diagnosis with mammary neoplasias. In this paper a case of mammary multinodular fat necrosis is presented and emphasis is given on the importance of cytology by fine needle aspiration to confirm the diagnosis.
