Serum samples were collected from 43 cancer patients living in Belém and other cities of Pará, and tested for the presence ofantibody to HTL V-l by enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay (ELISA). Positive results occurred in 10 (23,2%) out of the 43 specimens, being further confirmed by both Western-blot analysis (WB) and indirect immunogold electron microscopy (IIG-EM). Five (50,0%,) out of the 10 seropositive patients were females suffering from cervix cancer.
