One hundred and thirty-eight cases of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions were studied by the fine needle aspiration cytology method, com paring the results with the histopathology study; diagnostic accuracy was of 80.4 per cent and diagnostic mistakes ranged 4.34 per cent; similar results are found in the literature. The study of 98 cases of breast lesions showed a diagnostic accuracy of 75.5 per cent and a failure rate of 3.05 per cent Histopathologic findings of benign and malignant lesions of breast were induded. The criteria for cytologic diagnosis emphasizing the utility of the fine needle aspiration cytology in the preoperative work-up are studied. False positive and false negative findings studies showed that there is good possibyility of diagnosing lesions such as fibroadenoma and ductal, papillar and medular carcinomas of breast, as well as granular cell myoblastoma and malignat melanoma. The diagnostic difficulties in skin and thyroid lesions are emphasized, and certain cytologic details in Soft tissue and urinary tract lesions are discussed. The value of the criteria of scant material as sign of benignity is questioned, and the meaning of the findings of canibalism and typical and atypical mitosis is evaluated we condude that there is enough support to include the method in the diagnostic routine in oncology.
