Abstract

A technique that uses a miocutaneous flap from the rectus abdominal muscle in mammary reconstruction is described. The major advantages of th is technique are: a) The flap is large enough to reconstruct the breast and infraclavicular region without prothesis; b) It leaves no deformity at the donour área; c) The flap resembles the-contra-lateral breast in its colour and texture. Certain precautions, such as in case of previous scars at the donour area, the utiiization of the fiap on its total extension and the necessity of good drainage of the surgical site must be considered and are discussed in detail.
