Introduction: This research is a descriptive bibliographical review. Objective: To describe the aspects related to the quadrivalent vaccine, found in both national and international scientific literature, as for its chemical description, indications, vaccination scheme, presentation and conservation, interaction with other vaccines, duration of protection, cross protection, safety, contraindications, immunogenicity, adverse reactions, efficacy and epidemiological and economics impact. Method: A search of studies was carried out in the Lilacs and Medline electronic data bases in the period between 2005 and 2009. Out of the 70 documents found, 35 were selected once they aggregated information about the several technical and practical aspects of the quadrivalent vaccine. With these documents in hands, an analytical reading was done and the papers organized by themes and their presentation. Results: Among the more relevant information it can be mentioned that it is indicated to women between 9 and 26 years old, before sexual initiation, being administered in three doses; it has confirmed efficacy against the serotypes present in it, being highly immunogenic and with protection guarantee for 5 years; it is safe, without any risk of infection with its administration and with mild to moderate local adverse effects. Conclusion: This study showed that there are important knowledge gaps about this vaccine that still need to be explained.
