Resumo

Os autores apresentam considerações gerais, concernentes à radioterapia dos tumores do Sistema Nervoso Central. Apresentam e analisam as classificações histopatológicas mais aceitas desses tumores, levando em consideração a neuro-embriologia. Fazem uma revisão da literatura moderna e apresentam técnicas e resultados obtidos no tratamento dos principais tumores do Sistema Nervoso Central por vários autores. Apresentam técnicas e táticas de tratamento, algumas originais, usadas no Serviço a que pertencem, introduzindo particularmente algumas modificações nos meios de imobilização dos pacientes, bem como nos cálculos dosimétricos com fórmulas por eles estabelecidas para calcular os hiatos (Gaps) entre campos de irradiação da medula. Estas fórmulas foram ideadas pelos autores e representam contribuição para a maior segurança na radioterapia em geral e, particularmente, no planejamento radioterápico para o tratamento adequado dos tumores do Sistema Nervoso Central. Finalmente, os autores apresentam sua casuística e analisam, em especial, os casos de pinealoma, meduloblastoma e ependimoma tratados no Serviço em que atuam. O trabalho visa a introduzir modificações técnicas, em parte originais, cálculos mais precisos e seguros, e analisa os resultados imediatos obtidos.
