Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the socio-demographic and reproductive profiles of women diagnosed with ovarian tumor in the city of Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil, from June 2001 to June 2006. A descriptive and retrospective questionnaire was applied in the Anatomopathology Laboratory of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS, Unified Health Care System) in Jundiaí and in the Women Health Outpatient Clinic of Jundiaí Health Department. The socio-demographic profiles of the women with ovarian tumor were as follows: the average age at the moment of diagnosis was 55 years-old (± 13.5 years-old); the average level of education at the moment of diagnosis was 5.8 years (± 3 years); and most women were white and married. The reproductive profiles of these women were as follows: the average age at menarche was 13 years-old (± 1.6 year); most women were multiparas; there was a weight increase from the age at diagnosis to the age in the occasion of this study; the average breastfeeding period was 8.6 months (± 6.5 months); and most women used oral hormonal contraceptive methods.
