An analysis of epidermoid carcinoma of the mouth, according to the files of Hospital Napoleão Laureano in João Pessoa (Paraíba), Brazil, was made. The authors discuss clinical aspects and relation to sex, site, race, age as well as the action of some risk factors. In view of the high frequency of this neoplasia in our country, the relevance of well conducted epidemiological studies as well as more complete questionaries and formularies are indicated to be used by medical and odontological services, in order to permit a more panoramic view of the evolutionary process of these lesions.
