Some aspects of the epidemiologic control and treatment of gram-negative rods infections in imunossupressed patients are discussed. Potent new antimicrobial chemotherapy has been developed, with agents of the B-lactam and aminoglycoside class. in spite of these developments, the likelyhood of drug resistance seems great. Presently, much attention has been paid to host defenses. Replacement or supplementation of circulating fagocitic cells has encountered major technical problems and complications. Development of monoclonal anti-bodies and intravenous imunoglobulin must be tested as a new benefit for the patient.
