Abstract

Two hundred eighty one Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were tested for their susceptibility to four penicillins and three aminoglycosides, by the agar diffusion and agar dilution methods. Amikacin was the most active of seven B-lactam and aminade sugars antibiotics, in hibiting 95% of the strains, except when these were isolates of urinary tract infections. Penicillins and cephalosporins showed poor activity. Among others aminoglycosides, tobramycin inhibited nearly 50% of the strains tested.
