Abstract

Odontogenic tumors are a complex group of lesions with different biological behavior and histological types. Some of these tumors are true neoplasms but they have a rare malignant behavior. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently revised and updated the odontogenic tumor classifications and nomenclature, which then included new terminology and entities for this group. In this literature review, the authors emphasized the substantial changes occurred in the classification of these pathologies and report on experiments that were intended to identify molecular changes in odontogenic tumors of epithelial origin.
