Abstract

This study aims to describe the theoretical and methodological framework of the GARPO-Laryngectomees. Our interest in this subject had its origin when we noticed a huge gap in the literature about theoretical framework related to support group for patients with chronic diseases as cancer. The study describes the main characteristics of the group and the concepts about support, health education and rehabilitation. These concepts are the basis for the care of laryngectomees and the support for their relatives. These ideas base the group process and establish standards to evaluate health activities. Educating the patients has been the linkage to the activities. The results have motived the profissionais to seek continuing education and to develop research to improve care.
